The North East Bull Terrier Club held a Championship show at Bowburn Community Centre and what a super show it was, just like the good old days! A decent entry by today’s standards with most of them present and plenty of quality, an enthusiastic ringside, efficient organisation and excellent food. Great to meet up with some old friends I hadn’t seen for years and also to see a number of the new generation handling in the ring or helping out in various capacities.
Plenty of classy heads, good bone and substance and hindquarters generally much better than they used to be. Few had really well laid shoulders, and correct feet were rare. Good to see most of the best heads were accompanied by correct mouths. A minority of undershot or reverse scissors and in the males especially I’d prefer to see fewer with one or both tight canines. Several would have looked better had they carried less weight especially over the shoulders.

Bigger rangy 10 months red and white, good eye and expression, ears could be a shade smaller, not quite profile of the minor pup, correct neck and topline, well made hindquarters used well on the move, true front, a shade upright in shoulder.

Very short back but with plenty of shape thanks to good angles both ends, good head type without exaggeration, correct neck line, strongly boned in proportion to his size, moved absolutely true behind, fairly well in front, strode out retaining his topline on the move which won him RDCC
2nd CLANSMANN CENTURIAN PLAYER (MR & MISS K & A JOWERS)
Very smart attractive white, super head, a shade more profile than 1, enough neck, sound hindquarters, could be a shade more compact, strode out nicely but didn’t hold his topline as well as 1;

Classy white of super type and balance, strong contender for RCC. Masculine but quality head, wicked expression, excellent neck and shoulder with the right among of forechest, well bodied, good flowing lines, strong hindquarters, moved well in front, rather close at the rear;

Showy white, excellent expression front on, not quite the profile of 1, plenty of bone, short back, well bodied, moved true behind, rather bouncy in front

The combination of short back and shapeliness we have come to expect from this line, beautiful head type filled and turned, masculine with a superb expression, strong bone, clean shoulders, turns out front feet a shade, excellent hind angulation, moved very true behind, reasonably in front. Foxed me rather – thought he would figure in the challenge but he just wouldn’t get into his stride and make full use of those excellent hindquarters. When he finds the pace that suits him should do very well
2nd MEGAVILLES RECKLESS (MR & MRS P & A BLAIR)
Such an attractive classy dog helped by super training and handling, it does make a difference, admired the way he stood four square making the most of his attributes. Good masculine head, correct eyes and ears, couldn’t quite match 1’s profile or fill, reachy neck, correct topline, enough substance, strong quarters, straight front. Not so true going away as

Head of amazing fill and strength combined with the correct profile, super expression and well carried ears, enough neck, plenty of bone and substance, straight front and muscled sufficiently angulated hindquarters, moves unusually true for such a strong dog DCC & BIS

Showy white, plenty of neck, shade upright in shoulder, short back, has some style, well made hindquarters, masculine head, not quite so good in ear, free mover, true behind;

Have had a soft spot for this handsome red since judging him as a pup, at nearly 8 strode into the ring looking every inch the champion he would undoubtedly have been if only he’d had a scissor bite, that elusive combination of short and shapely, super bone and substance, excellent expression, free active happy mover in great nick.

Can perhaps strengthen a shade more in pastern but everything else to admire RBCC

Eye catching stylish red in top form today, carrying just the right amount of weight, tremendous bone and power, long strong head with good profile and enough fill, super clean neck, short back, scored today in her big hammy well muscled hindquarters, moved true both ways and strode out with panache, making a super pair, I felt, with the tricolour boy. 2nd ABENAKI ROMANTIC DESTINY (MRS H BLOOM)
Really lovely white of a very feminine classical stamp, pushed 1 all the way, class all through with a particularly good expression and clean lines, moved true with a good length of stride. Splitting hairs between her and the lovely puppy in the challenge for the RCC, she just decided then to bounce around on the move a bit. Her title surely can’t be far away
