Once again, I would like to thank the Bull Terrier Club committee for asking me to judge the most prestigious open show of the year at the BTC Trophy weekend. It has been a real honour and privilege for which I’m extremely grateful.
A big thank you to my stewards on the day for their coordination of the classes and exhibits, a special mention to Miss Naomi Ramshaw for keeping me on track and sorting the exhibits so professionally, and not least my sincere gratitude to all the exhibitors for entering under me, from an entry of 54 I went over 41 dogs, which in the current climate of COVID and the difficulty of travel is a great number to have judged. Thanks to all that attended and travelled from all over the world to make the show such a great success.
Quality was extremely high in all of the classes, with some very tough and close decisions in classes where I needed a handful of 1st place tickets! It was pleasing to see so many typey Bull Terriers conforming so closely to the breed standard, it is a great testament to their breeders.
A highlight of the day was the veteran classes where I was lucky enough to have gone over none other than the Major Trophy winning “Robbie” CH Emred Devils Advocate, looking every inch of health a true “Laster” who was clearly at home in the ring as if he had never been away! Lovely to hear the crowd cheering and clapping their appreciation for the boy who certainly doesn’t look his years. Great Thanks to Mrs Lamonby for entering him.

What ring presence! shouting “look at me” cracking profile with strength, depth and finish, filled right up, punishing oblique tiny black eye, correct mouth, ears bang on top and used them all the time. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, gun barrel front with strong pasterns and tight feet. Very short coupled with the best of rear angulation. Moved out with drive coming and going, held his top line on the move, never stopped showing, I’m sure this young chap will go all the way! BD BOB

A favourite of mine seen at previous shows, real quality, strong ring presence, up standing, lovely head with the best of profiles and finish, ears well placed and used them all the time, good front with nice tight feet, well angulated quarters, moved well both ways. It is clear to see this chap’s quality breeding shining through, sure he will go on to be very successful as he matures.

Powerful long and filled head, great profile with good finish, well placed tiny eye, correct mouth, bags of bone and substance, straight front, good feet, good rear angulation. Moved out well coming and going. One that is still coming together, I’m sure we will see more of this chap doing great things over the next couple of years.
2nd DIKRAM DEVILS PROMISE (MRS N FLANAGAN)
Just piped to the post by 1, a very difficult and close decision. Strong filled head, cracking profile with well-placed ears. Correct mouth, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, very short coupled, the shortest of backs into well angulated quarters, never stopped showing and moved out with drive holding his top line well on the move.

Big heavy weight boy, enough profile with good depth and good finish, plenty of bone and substance, frosty front with tight feet. Moved out with drive and purpose, held his top line coming and going. Another close call to 1.

Such ring presence, shouting “look at me” never stopped showing from the time he swept into the ring, a real credit to his handler, my best mover of the day, drove out with power and purpose, parallel holding his top line coming and going, an abject lesson in ring craft. Head filled right up ears bang on top, tiny oblique eye with a wicked expression, correct mouth, short coupled with the best of angulation, pushed hard for Best of Breed. RBD RBOB
2nd BLAZINBULLYS BACK TO BLACK (MR & MRS S & R MATHISON)
Big heavy weight, well-marked black brindle boy, bags of bone and substance, lovely profile and finish, filled right up with the best of ears bang on top, correct mouth with big white teeth, most elegant neck with just the right reach and gentle arc into well placed shoulders. Deep chest with great spring of rib, big round bones into tight feet, put down as are all of this kennel in the best of conditions, showed like a top, moved well both ways with drive, pushed 1 hard for the prize. Sure this chap will go on to great things in the next couple of years. Top draw!

What can I say about this boy that has not already been said! Winner and clean sweep of all the major trophies in 2014, still holding all of his virtues that sees this boy at the very pinacol of what a Bull terrier can achieve, a great “Laster” clearly in the best of health, mouth still spot on and a profile that the best can be proud of, ears bang on top, great reach of neck , tight shoulders into a lovely deep chest, big round bones with the tightest of feet, short coupled with great angulation. A real pleasure to see on the move, certainly not looking his years and a credit to his handler. Very much enjoying his day out, an honour to go over him!
2nd RAGNAROK BALDER AT POLANCA (MISS L SHEPPARD)
I really did need two first place tickets for this class, one that I’m sure was destined for the very top… at the tender age of fourteen he really isn’t looking his years, a pleasure to go over this big heavy weight boy, still maintaining his great profile, no coarseness here… great depth of chest and spring of rib, tight feet and still very much up on straight pasterns. Short coupled, moved out with drive and clearly still enjoying the ring, many thanks for bringing the boy for all to see, and a great appreciation from the audience with applause and cheering as he moved out.

Put down in pristine condition as we have always come to expect from this kennel. Pushed hard in an extremely strong class of quality animals.
